Description:
2008 National Book Club Conference on August 1 - 3, 2008 Website: http://www.nationalbookclubconference.com/ The 2008 NBCC promises to again serve as the most dynamic and lasting literary event of the year. From the quality of the authors, to the passion of the readers, to the intimacy of the surroundings, the National Book Club Conference executes a memorable experience like no other occasion. The sixth-annual NBCC will take place Aug. 1-3, 2008 in Atlanta at ATLANTA MARRIOTT MARQUIS. Rest assured the venue will be one that services all the needs of the 650 readers from around the country and match the standards set by the coordinators. The tentative list of Featured Authors is astounding: Iyanla Vanzant, Eric Jerome Dickey, Terry McMillan, Omar Tyree, Tina McElroy Ansa, Kimberla Lawson Roby, R.M. Johnson, Terrie Williams, Walter Mosley and more. It is indicative of how the NBCC has grown into the must-attend for any reader who covets the opportunity to fellowship with like-minded book lovers from around the country and some of the most outstanding authors around. The itinerary will be set about six months from the start of the conference, but the hallmarks of the event will not change: We will start at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 with the conference-opening breakfast. So, do plan to arrive in Atlanta the previous night or very early Friday morning. Also on Friday will be the Terry McMillan Young Author Award, where the trailblazing, best-selling McMillan acknowledges a young literary talent. We'll also have thought-provoking panel discussions, several book club meetings and at least one reception in the evening. On Saturday, we'll start again at 9 a.m. with book club meetings up to the Terrie Williams Inspiration Award luncheon, where the gifted Iyanla Vanzant will be honored. There will be more panel discussions and book club meetings and another reception before the glamorous Featured Authors Red Carpet Entrance that leads to the Walter Mosley Author of Distinction Award Dinner. Sunday morning, we'll meet with a collection of talented self-published authors (the NBCC is committed to exposing self-published talent) before wrapping it all up around noon. By then, you will be full of the spirit of fellowship, learning and fun. With registration, book lovers receive: admission to all NBCC ?book club meetings,? signings and panel discussions; breakfast, lunch and martinis at the reception on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008; lunch and dinner at the awards banquet on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008.
